Professor Tipsy Speaking!

Passimian is well known for its unique ability, Receiver. This ability comes into play whenever it's in a double battle, and a fellow Pokemon faints in battle. What it does next is use Receiver to inherit the ability of the downed ally Pokemon, and use it for the duration of the battle. But people from outside of Alola are often baffled at how it's able to use all these abilities! But to those who see it in action, it makes so much more sense.

You see...Passimian are very intelligent. I mean VERY intelligent. Not only are they smart enough to be well-coordinated in teamwork, and use training regimes and strategic planning to make a team successful. They are also masters at cultivating plant matter. And because Passimian can't magically inherit the ability of a downed Pokemon, they settle for makeshift tactics instead. They observe the team they're with currently, create an arsenal of tools they can use beforehand, and when the time is right, use it to their advantage.

Sure, this can be considered cheating in competitive battle. But you can't deny how well it serves them, and how clever they can be sometimes!

NOTE: This list will not include Legendary exclusive abilities. Also I haven't covered EVERY ability ever. Just quite a few of the more well-known ones!

KNOWN EFFECTS:

Aerilate - Passimian implements a pair of large, broad Nanab Tree leaves that create a strong gust of wind for every strike it makes. This effectively turns all Normal-Type moves into Flying-Type moves.

Aftermath - Passimian empties out its whole arsenal, and upon defeat, throws every tool berry it has left at them for major damage.

Analytic - Passimian simply steels its body and observes its opponent's move, looking for a weak spot to exploit.

Anger Point - Passimian eats a bunch of Liechi Berries at once, making it highly excitable. When taking a critical hit, it produces huge amounts of adrenaline and goes mad, causing its Attack to be boosted all the way up. It becomes very exhausted after the battle is over.

Arena Trap - Passimian throws a bunch of juicy fruits into the ground to make it sticky and muddy, and therefore makes it impossible for any grounded Pokemon to escape the battlefield.

Aroma Veil - Passimian uses a sweet smelling flower to rejuvenate its allies into resisting moves that limit their move choices.

Battle Armor - Passimian uses the shells of Coconuts to craft a makeshift armor, to protect itself from critical hits.

Blaze - Passimian takes fermented fruits emitting flammable gases, and lathers the juices on itself. In an emergency, it can set them on fire and use Fire-Type moves with ease. Passimian's fur is fire-resistant, thanks to certain pungent oils excreted by glands on its tail that it rubs on itself, so it is almost completely unharmed in doing so.

Chlorophyll - Passimian plants a rapidly growing tangle of vines and plants into moist soil, which needs sunlight to boost its growth. When sunlight is strong, they use the tangle's vines, leaves, seeds and berries as Grass-Type moves.

Cute Charm - Passimian sprays on itself a sort of aphrodisiac Pecha Berry "perfume/cologne" that make them smell attractive to Pokemon of the opposite sex. Ironically enough, they do this in the wild to advertise sexual availability.

Damp - Passimian throws cold berry juice at everyone in the battlefield. This makes other combatants both too wet AND cold to muster up a self-destructive move.

Dry Skin - Passimian rubs Cheri Berry ointment all over themselves, which dries out their skin, and allows them to heal HP if they're soaked in water.

Effect Spore - Passimian carries around assorted mushrooms that may shake loose hazardous spores, resulting in either Poison, Paralysis or Sleep.

Filter - Passimian equips various berries, specifically Coba, Payapa, and Roseli Berries, and studies its opponents moves. If it is about to get hit by a super-effective move, it quickly eats the berry to easier withstand the blow.

Flame Body - Passimian takes fermented fruits, slather its fur with it, and light it. Passimian's fire-resistant fur allows them to remain relatively unharmed while their opponents take damage upon physical contact with them.

Flare Boost - Passimian takes fermented fruits, slathers the juices all over its hands and body. Whenever hit by a Fire-Type move, it can begin using strong Fire-Type moves, with their fur being resistant enough to burning to allow this.

Flower Gift - Passimian carries around a large, closed flower that only blooms in intense sunlight. The sweet scent from the flower in full bloom is enough to empower ally Pokemon on the battlefield.

Flower Veil - Passimian plants an arsenal of rapidly growing flowers on the battlefield. When a Grass-Type Pokemon is feeling weaker due to its stats being lowered, it can drink the nectar from these flowers to rejuvenate themselves.

Gale Wings - Passimian implements Nanab Tree leaves in much the same manner as Aerilate, but are smaller and more streamlined. They can't convert Normal-Type moves into Flying-Type moves per every strike, but they can use these leaf-wings to speed up aerial movement, and give Flying-Type moves priority.

Grass Pelt - Passimian implements a makeshift cloak fashioned from shrubs, bushes and patches of grass. Said grass cloak grows thicker and more protective when in areas where plants flourish.

Heatproof - Passimian rubs the fire-resistant oils secreted from its tail all over its body, and also rub down its body in Rawst Berry juice. This makes its body highly resistant to fire.

Hydration - Passimian carries assorted dried berries with it. When it begins raining, the berries become moisturized and full again, allowing Passimian to eat them, and cure status ailments it has.

Immunity - Passimian drinks a juice made of Pecha Berries, which when drank in large amounts, can temporarily immunize the body to poison substances.

Insomnia - Passimian drinks juice made of Chesto Berries, which has a very high caffeine content. This allows the Pokemon to stay awake without being affected by Sleep-inducing moves.

Leaf Guard - Passimian carries around the same rapidly growing tangle of vines and plants as Chlorophyll. Instead of using it as a source of Grass-Type attacks, it eats the leaves and berries it grows to cure its status ailments.

Levitate - Passimian uses a large, hollowed coconut as a balancing ball, and can skillfully jump up and down to avoid Ground-Type attacks.

Lightning Rod - Passimian takes a Sitrus Berry, and slathers its juices all over a large stick, which it posts on the ground. Sitrus Berry juice is highly conductive and can sometimes attract electricity, so Electric-Type attacks will hit this makeshift Lightning Rod instead of an opponent.

Limber - Passimian drinks a juice made of Cheri Berries, which when drank in large amounts, can keep the body fluidly moving and agile, without fear of being paralyzed.

Liquid Ooze - Passimian slathers its body in juices made from various inedible and poisonous fruits that harm Pokemon trying to use an HP-stealing move on it.

Magma Armor - Passimian slathers its body in Aspear Berry juice, which acts as an antifreeze that prevents it from being frozen.

Natural Cure - Passimian keeps a stash of Berries inside of its Pokeball instead of having them on hand, allowing it to heal its status ailments when outside of battle.

Overcoat - Passimian quickly fashions itself a makeshift cloak out of thick leaves that protect it against the elements. It does this in the wild too, to protect it against changing weather.

Poison Point - Passimian wraps itself in assorted thorny plants and vines that poison whatever makes physical contact with it.

Poison Touch - Passimian wraps its arms in assorted thorny plants and vines, that allow it to poison whatever it makes physical contact with.

Regenerator - Passimian keeps a stash of Berries inside of its Pokeball instead of having them on hand, allowing it to heal its HP when outside of battle.

Rock Head - Passimian uses a Coconut shell to create a makeshift helmet, which it uses to attack opponents without fear of recoil damage.

Rough Skin - Passimian drinks a juice made of Jaboca Berries, causing its skin to become rough and rocky, and its fur to become bristly and needle-like. Any physical contact with this Pokemon WILL result in the attacker being harmed as well.

Speed Boost - Passimian drinks a juice made of Salac Berries, causing its reflexes and body to become gradually quicker with time. This way it can keep boosting its speed for most of the battle.

Static - Passimian slathers its body in Sitrus Berry juice. Because of its conductivity, physical contact with Passimian may cause Paralysis in the attacking Pokemon.

Stench - Passimian doesn't use a berry, but simply the pungent stink emitted from glands on its tail. The stench on its own can cause Pokemon being attacked to flinch. Males do this outside of battle to, in what is known as a "Stink Fight".

Sticky Hold - Passimian slathers sticky berry juice on its hands, which prevents the opposite team from stealing its held items.

Swarm - Passimian slathers itself in assorted strong smelling fruits. This attracts bugs which they can use to boost the effectiveness of Bug-Type attacks.

Sweet Veil - Passimian carries around with it a small but strong-smelling flower that keeps its ally Pokemon wide awake and alert, acting as a sort of smellingsalt.

Volt Absorb - Passimian carries around a Sitrus Berry to attract Electric-Type attacks. When it has absorbed an attack, Passimian eats the electrified berry, which causes its HP to be restored.

Water Absorb - Passimian carries around a dried Watmel Berry to be soaked by a Water-Type attack. When it has absorbed an attack, Passimian eats the moisturized berry, which causes HP to be restored.
This is a personal theory of mine on how Passimian is able to inherit just about ANY ability of fainted ally Pokemon. I kinda figured, being somewhat military-esque figures that have squadrons, drill training and all that, I figured these would ALSO be the guys to use makeshift tactics to win a battle! Plus they're not Psychic like other Pokemon, so they don't have any sort of mystical backing to explain this. So I shall forgo a "magical" explanation, and go for something that would probably be in-character for them to use!

Tell me what you guys think!
